Massage Dehydration Ogden
If you’ve been to a professional spa, you may have noticed that the massage therapist will offer a glass of water, wine or tea among other beverages after the massage. From this gesture, you are left wondering if this is mere courtesy, a way of enhancing the flushing out of toxins or to rehydrate your body after the massage.
Getting a massage usually results in loss of water and in some instances, you may feel dehydrated. The techniques used during the massage will lead to squeezing out of some fluids from your tissues. Massage will also aid in the removal of toxins from your body and to get rid of these toxins, you’ll need to take plenty of water.
Now, back to the main issue, ‘does massage therapy lead to dehydration?’
After your massage session, it is normal to feel thirsty. Your mouth may also feel dry after the massage due to the low saliva level in your mouth. But, this does not mean you are dehydrated! A single glass of water immediately after the massage will make you feel better and the saliva level in your mount will get back to normal.
It is important to note that what you do before the massage will affect how you’ll be feeling after your massage. For instance, if you went on a drinking spree on the day before your massage appointment, you’ll be already struggling with dehydration. You will need to take plenty of water before going for a massage to avoid getting too thirsty afterward.
Massage therapy does not lead to dehydration. In case you had not taken enough water before your massage appointment, the massage will bring to life a psychological awareness that you need to nourish your body. You will feel a deep urge to take some water or any other liquid which is a good sign that your body is functioning properly.
When the massage therapist offers you some water after your session, it is usually a form of courtesy. You can also take it as a reminder that you should stay hydrated to continue reaping the benefits of the massage.
Water is Essential Before and After the Massage
Though you will not lose too much water during massage therapy, it is needful to keep hydrating your body to stay healthy. Some people will not even feel thirsty after the massage since they had already taken the initiative to drink enough water before the massage.
When the massage therapist offers you water after the massage, it is out of courtesy and not that you are dehydrated. Water will help you to relax so that you’ll be strong enough to discuss your next massage appointment. It will also sustain you until you are strong enough to get a more nourishing drink.
So, when booking your next massage appointment, do not even entertain that the massage will leave you dehydrated. Taking plenty of water before the massage and even after will ensure that you get maximum benefits from your appointment. It will also help in flushing out the toxins that will be released into your system during the massage.
