Before you get into waxing, here are things that you must keep in mind:

• If you have chosen to remove unwanted hair through waxing, do not use another method of hair removal in between waxing appointments.
• Plan your appointments wisely such that they will not correspond with the time you usually have your monthly periods as the waxing will be more painful at this time. Your body will be more likely to swell or develop other complications.
• The use of retinoid should be stopped at least one week before going for a waxing hair removal treatment as it makes the skin more fragile which may lead to abrasion. You should inform the esthetician if you are using retinoid before the waxing treatment begins.
• Exfoliate your skin a night before the waxing process so that the hair follicles will be open reducing the possibility of having ingrown hairs.
• Be sure of what you want the aesthetician to do before you go for the waxing procedure. This will save time as the aesthetician will not waste time waiting for you to decide what you really want.
• If you experience reddening on your skin after a waxing process, dip a towel in a mixture of skimmed milk and cold water and place it on your skin. This will calm the skin making the irritation less severe.
• Applying ice on the waxed skin as soon as the procedure is over will prevent the occurrence of bumps and ingrown hair as well.
• Keep off basking in the sun immediately after waxing as your skin is very sensitive and will suffer from heartburn. If you must go, you should apply sunscreen to prevent your skin from the sun’s radiation.
• To have more of the waxing treatment, ensure you do it more often as this will weaken your hair and eventually the growth will be retarded due to constant uprooting. You will be able to stay for longer durations before the need for waxing arises.
