If you are interested in removing unwanted hair, then you have several options available. Waxing is one of the most popular ways to remove hair, and it is offered at most salons and beauty spas. You can even do it yourself in the comfort of your own home.
This will make it easier for the wax to grab hold of the hair, which means that it will remove even more hair. Avoid exfoliating the day of your wax, and wait at least 48 hours after your wax to start your exfoliation routine.
The Day of Your Appointment
Waxing can be painful, especially if you are older and it is the first time you are getting a wax. This is because the hair follicles are large and strong, but they will get smaller and weaker with each waxing session. It will get less painful, but in the meantime, take an Advil or two about an hour before your wax.
During the Wax
If you are getting a professional wax from a salon or spa, then make sure that the technician is licensed and is following all sterilization procedures. She should not place the stick or spatula back into the wax after it has touched your skin because this could transmit bacteria from person to person. If you are doing the wax yourself, do notice your skin as you are waxing. It will close your pores and make the wax more painful. If you have noticed that a few hairs were not stripped away the first time, do not try to apply more wax. This will irritate your skin and may cause you to bleed. Just tweeze or shave the excess hair.
After the Wax
Since your skin will be sensitive after the wax, minimize sun exposure for 24 hours following your appointment. You should also avoid exercising, which may also irritate your skin. Make another appointment for a wax in four weeks, and do not try to shave or wax in between appointments. Your hair has to be at least a quarter of an inch in length in order for the wax to work, and cutting it or removing it too soon will produce less effective results.
